The scholarship jacket is a short story by Marta Salinas. I would put it in the coming of age genre because Martha, the main character, is realising that life is not always fair, as she overhears Mr. Boone and Mr. Schmidt discussing if Joanne or Martha should get the scholarship jacket, "Look Joann's father is not only on the Board, he owns the only store in town; we could say it was a close tie and...", as you would feel in that situation Martha must have felt really insecure.
The reason I would put it in the realistic fiction genre is because Martha could be an actual person and someone could be in that situation and where she lives (America) is a real place.
Raymond's run is a coming of age and realistic fiction story by Toni Cade Bambara. The reason why I think this is in the coming of age genre is because Squeaky, the main character has to look after her brother Raymond, a normal childhood job, except that Raymond is 21 and has a "Pumpkin sized head", also she meets her enemies, a group of three nasty girls one being Mary Louise, who Squeaky helped stop being beaten up. The reason I think the story is in the realistic fiction genre is because where she lives, in New York is a real place and because bullying and name-calling can happen in real life.
All summer in a day is a suspense, science fiction and coming of age story, the reason I think All summer in a day is in the suspense genre is because when Margot, the main character is locked in the closet, after she is let out all the book says is that 'Behind the closet door was only silence.
They unlocked the door, even more
slowly, and let Margot out.', and at the beginning "Ready ?"
"Ready."
"Now ?"
"Soon."
"Do the scientists really know? Will it
happen today, will it ?"
"Look, look; see for yourself !", now if you were a new reader the scientists could have predicted anything from a black hole to a new evolution, this keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. The reason I think All summer in a day is a science fiction story is because the story is set on Venus the planet that rains for 365 days and the only sunlight they have is for two hours every seven years. Now the reason I think this story is in the coming of age genre is because Margot and the children are all growing up and learning what is right and wrong.
The sound of thunder is a science fiction and suspense story, the reason I think this story is in the science fiction genre is because "A real Time Machine, makes you think" Eckles the main character exclaims, thus proving that this story is definitely science fiction. The reason I think this story is in the suspense genre is because "I'm warning you Eckles I still might kill you yet" Travis says, this making the reader sit on the edge of their seat.
The Landlady is a suspense, realistic fiction and mystery story. The reason I think The Landlady is in the suspense genre is because she is quite edgy and a little too kind, and at the end, protruding from Billy Weaver's tea, was a light scent of almond; symbolising that The Landlady had put cyanide in Billy's beverage thus ending on a cliff hanger. The reason I think that The Landlady should be in the mystery genre is because “We have it all to ourselves,” does sound a little bit creepy and “Oh, I am, my dear, I am, of course I am.
But the trouble is that I'm inclined to be just a
teeny weeny bit choosy and particular – if you
see what I mean.” this is a little bit odd considering that she is much, much older than him, also she seems to have a collection off a bit too much stuffed people and animals that Billy will soon be apart of. The reason I would put The Landlady in the realistic fiction genre is because; there are some strange and mysterious people in this world; that like stuffing their victims.
Clockwork is a fantasy and suspense story. The reason I think this story should go in the fantasy genre is because, Little Prince Florian is a clockwork child that can function like a real human being, also his father Prince Otto sacrifices his heart to his child and is equipped with a clockwork heart to deliver his son back home, and Fritz the storyteller that when he tells his story Clockwork and it comes true. The reason I would place Clockwork in the suspense genre is because Sir Ironsoul the knight nearly kills two people who have said the word 'Devil' The story telling itself is quite unnerving as it seems to go out of control.

A Sound of Thunder is a Science Fiction and Suspense story.
"A real time Machine, makes you think"
A time machine is a technology of the future or a partially true scientific theory.
"He indicated a metal Path that struck off into green wilderness." The metal path is futuristic because it floats.
"We were fools to come. This is impossible." Eckels says this when the dinosaur is first seen. It creates suspense by making the reader feel what he feels.
" Does this Safari guarantee that I come back alive?"This quote at the beginning of the story creates suspense about what will happen.
" His face was numb, his mouth trembled." This is a reaction to the realization that the world has changed. We are in suspense because we can 'feel' his fear and we don't know how much has changed.
These quotes prove that the story is suspense and science fiction.

Hoot
Hoot is a novel by Carl Hiaasen, in the Coming of age and Realistic Fiction genre.
The story takes place in Coconut Cove, Florida in the present day.
The Reason I think Hoot is within these genres, is because Roy Eberhardt, the main character of the novel tries to stop the construction of Mother Paula's pancake restaurant. Which puts the Endangered Burrow Owls in conflict with the construction of the restaurant. The conflict of trying to save the rare owls and not get into trouble himself as he is only young. Fortunately there is another two people trying to help the owls, Beatrice and her step-brother, Mullet Fingers her stepbrother is a runaway from his family and only Beatrice knows his whereabouts.
Not only do they stop the construction, but Roy makes friends and they expose the dishonesty of the building company involved. The book also shows how large companies can disregard the environment.
The themes in this book are growing up, we see Roy take responsibility, another theme is corruption because the pancake house wants to bribe local officials and build on protected land.
The mood of the book is sad at the beginning as Roy hates his new home in Florida, he much prefers it in Montana. Eventually the mood of the book becomes triumphant as his bully Dana Matherson, is thrown in jail and the school wins against the building company.

The Hunt
The Hunt is a novel by Andrew Fukuda, in the fantasy and suspense genre.
The reason why I think The Hunt is in this genre is because the main character Gene is trying to survive as the only human living in a world full of vampires.
Gene's father helped Gene to live within this world before having to leave Gene as he was bit by a vampire.
After that the lonely boy had to adapt to life without his father, also another down side is that he has to join the 'heper hunt', the biggest sport in the community, as he is not a real vampire he will have a hard time hunting the heper's.
The heper's are bred in captivity and are the bait for the hunt and are the ones that are hunted. Gene has to keep his identity secret but starts to make freinds with the heper's in captivity. The themes starting to appear in this book are themes of good versus evil.
I haven't finished this book yet, but I can thoroughly recommend it if you like reading The Hunger Games trilogy.

King o'Toole and his Goose
The legend of King o'Tool and his Goose.
The tale begins with a goose that would always bring food to her master, the King.
Over the years the goose became frail and could not fly as her wings were stiff with age
.
King o'Toole was saddened to watch his trustworthy companion aging
.
One day a man appeared, we know this person now to be Saint Kavin.
He said he would heal King O'Toole's goose for a few acres of land.
King o'Tool agreed to the offer and Saint Kavin made the King's goose young again and healed her of her ailments.
This tale became a legend as Saint kavin had special healing powers which enabled him to heal the old and the sick, making them feel as good as new.

#BONUS A SOUND OF THUNDER (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ
BONUS #1
The jungle was high and the jungle was broad and the jungle was the entire world forever and forever.
BONUS #2
Examples of metaphor are: ...The jungle was the entire world forever and forever... |and| ... metaphor means transferring a 'quality from one thing to another. The quality of size of the earth is being transferred to thebJungle to make it seem very very very big.
Examples of simile are: Suddenly it all ceased, as if someone had shut a door. |and|
Like a stone idol, like a mountain avalanche... is a comparison that usually uses the words "like" or "as"
Example of symbolism is: "There's the red paint on its chest!" symbolizing that it is going to die. Symbolism is when a picture/sound/sign means something such as the union jack symbolises the UK

Answer each of the following questions using proper answer form.
1. What is inferred by the 'Sound of Thunder' through most of the story? What is inferred at the end of the story?
Throughout the story the 'sound of thunder' infers something wild and powerful made by nature. Something uncontrollable and unpredictable. At the end of the story the 'sound of thunder' infers death.
2. The author uses a great deal of imagery in the story. Pick an awesome paragraph with at least three good examples and explain how each is used to enhance the storytelling. everyone gets a different paragraph. First come first choice.
It came on great oiled, resilient, striding legs. It towered thirty feet above half of the trees, a great evil god, folding its delicate watchmaker's claws close to its oily reptilian chest. Each lower leg was a piston, a thousand pounds of white bone, sunk in thick ropes of muscle, sheathed over in a gleam of pebbled skin like the mail of a terrible warrior. Each thigh was a ton of meat, ivory, and steel mesh. And from the great breathing cage of the upper body those two delicate arms dangled out front, arms with hands which might pick up and examine men like toys, while the snake neck coiled. And the head itself, a ton of sculptured stone, lifted easily upon the sky. Its mouth gaped, exposing a fence of teeth like daggers. Its eyes rolled, ostrich eggs, empty of all expression save hunger. It closed its mouth in a death grin. It ran, its pelvic bones crushing aside trees and bushes, its taloned feet clawing damp earth, leaving prints six inches deep wherever it settled its weight.
Each lower leg was a piston, this image reminds you of huge force and the unstoppable power within the reptiles limbs.
It's mouth gaped exposing a fence of teeth like daggers, this image brings to mind, teeth so large that even one of them could impale a human like it is nothing.
'...While the snake neck coiled', it reminds us of a dangerous cobra ready to attack.
3. There are a number of moments of foreshadowing in the opening of the story (exposition). There are even more throughout the story as a whole. Give at least 5 examples from the whole story and explain what they foreshadow.
"We guarantee nothing," said the official...|Here the official is foreshadowing that Eckles will die at the end of the story.
"Makes you think, If the election had gone badly yesterday, I might be here now running away from the results. Thank God Keith won. He'll make a fine President of the United States."|Here Eckles is foreshadowing that also at the end of the story Deutscher will win the elections for president and will be the president of the United States
"So what?" Travis snorted quietly. "Well, what about the foxes that'll need those mice to survive?.... ....infinite billions of life forms are thrown into chaos and destruction.... ....From his loins would have sprung ten sons. From their loins one hundred sons, and thus onward to a civilization. Destroy this one man, and you destroy a race, a people, an entire history of life. It is comparable to slaying some of Adam's grandchildren.... ....a billion others yet unborn are.... ....Perhaps Rome never rises on its seven hills.... ....Queen Elizabeth might never be born, Washington might not cross the Delaware, there might never be a United States at all. So be careful. Stay on the Path. Never step off"|Here Travis foreshadows that everything will be changed when they go back to 2055, from spellings to different minds.
Keith made President. Everyone celebrating.|Here Eckles is foreshadowing that, again, Deutscher would be the president of the US.

"There's the red paint on its chest!"|Here either Travis or Lesperence foreshadows that the Tyrannosaurus-Rex is going to be killed.

Raymond's run questions.
2. Revisit your inference definition. Find two examples in the text and discuss each.
An inference is an idea or conclusion that's drawn from evidence and reasoning. An inference is an educated guess.
Inference 1. 'I see right away that this is going to be one of those Dodge City scenes cause the street ain't that big and they're close to the buildings just as we are' <--- Here Squeaky infers that the situation they will be in would be a Dodge City scene.
Inference 2. The fact that Squeaky is looking after Raymond her older brother infers that Raymond is not the responsible older person in the story, such as "What grade are you in now, Raymond?" Squeaky ---> "You got anything to say to my brother, you say it to me, Mary Louise Williams of Raggedy Town, Baltimore." <--- Here Squeaky is having to protect her brother from the bullies, rather than Raymond defending himself. Also "... right into the gutter and slosh around getting his shoes and cuffs wet. Then I get hit when I get home." <--- Here Squeaky's parents hit her for not taking care of Raymond.
3. Consider how Squeaky is described in the story using imagery. Give three examples and discuss.
The examples in this text that I have chosen are; tough, impatient and serious about her running. Squeaky is tough because she is the type of character who throughout the text shows "I am ready to fight, cause like I said I don't feature a whole lot of chit-chat" <--- Squeaky is showing us here that she prefers to fight rather than speak. She is impatient because her character shows us "I much prefer to knock you down right from the jump and save everybody a lotta precious time" <--- Here she is telling us that she just wants to get to the point, rather than having to waste time until the person has finished. Squeaky is serious about her running because she has shown us that "So I keep Raymond on the inside of me, and he plays like he's driving a stage coach which is OK by me so long as he doesn't run me over or interrupt my breathing exercises, which I have to do on account of I'm serious about my running, and I don't care who knows it. <--- Here Squeaky is showing us that although she has to take care of Raymond her breathing exercises and running are a big part of her life.
4. Raymond is described in a very particular way, by his actions. Give examples and explain how and what this tells the audience about him.
4. Raymond is described in a very particular way, by his actions. Give examples and explain how and what this tells the audience about him.
He is described in a way that says he needs special attention, as he seems, by his actions younger in his head than he is in real life, also he is described in a way that says he has a rather large head (literally). Here are some extracts of text that proves to the reader that he needs extra care, "... he'll dash across traffic to the island in the middle of Broadway and give the pigeons a fit. Then I have to go behind him apologizing..." this shows that he does not think of the consequences to his actions as he could get hit by a vehicle. also "... I wave to shush him, but he keeps rattling the fence like a gorilla in a cage..." here we find that Raymond is described to the readers like a large gorilla with no understanding of keeping quiet.
Inferences
I infer that this is a place where several bombs have dropped, this is because the buildings have collapsed and are very rundown, there is also a fire under the platform the man is jumping off, it seems to me that he is either trying to pass the time by free running or he is escaping from something/someone, such as a police officer of an animal (he might be scared of). He -possibly a professional free runner- might be doing a trick for a magazine since he does not look alike the locals of that area, also he is wearing cleaner; more expensive clothes than the locals.
The inference I go with is the professional free runner performing a trick for a magazine, the picture itself looks like it has been edited with Photoshop.
